Osebo's Drum

Best Bet”

New York Times

Robbi K's spirit is clearly contagious as the entire audience is soon singing and clapping along with Osebo's Drum while Robbi sets the scene for this traditional African "Pour Quoi?"  folktale about a tiny turtle, Akiki-Y'Kia, who uses kindness and thinking to succeed.  Robbi moves about the stage and room constantly, appealing to the audience as she acts out the many characters of this clever story.

Osebo the Leopard has built a huge and magnificent djembe drum that everyone can hear. But Osebo won't permit anyone to try the drum, not even Nyame, the Sky-God. Nyame promises that anyone who can bring the Leopard's drum home will receive a wonderful reward for teaching the leopard a lesson about his greedy, disrespectful ways. Then Nyame waits.

Many animals try to get the drum but Osebo's sharp claws and teeth, terrible growl & bad attitude scares them all away. Finally, Akiki-Y'Kia tries. She is small and soft-skinned and would love to wear a hard shell to protect herself. Other animals tease her because of her size, but she tries anyway. An adventure ensues to everyone's delight in the theatrical style of storytelling, exposing the traits & personalities of each character.

Osebo's Drum is presented with Robbi as the soloist or with her percussionists for houses seating 500+.

Top Notch Story Telling! The storytelling was absolutely amazing! The show was entertaining, informative, and fun.”

KEEP THE BEAT, truly represents Robbi's range and talent as a musical theatre performer and storyteller, as she tells tales about ancient drums and clever animals.

As a little girl growing up on Long Island, NY - she was quite funny, and always drawn the stage. From reciting the traditional Easter Address at church, to dance classes & piano lessons, Robbi's early years focused on creative expression. The nickname from her family in those days was 'Sara,' as in Berhardt!

Her first taste of children's theatre happened in 1981 when she had the opportunity to produce a Sunday family performance at the local university theater. Totally bitten by the bug, Robbi has since concentrated her talents on working with, and for, kids.

On stage she is engaging, commanding and spellbinding- weaving together a lifetime of experiences, humor, songs, conversations, movements, and rhythms to all around.

Robbi K has captivating creativity, high energy, and a strong commitment to excite, inspire & surprise her audience at every chance.
